About BEST

MISSION STATEMENT &
THEORY OF ACTION

Building Education for Students Together’s mission is to ignite a national parent-led movement by building, educating, and mobilizing the largest network of parent activists in the country to advocate for their children’s education through the election of school board members and the passage of policies that align with our vision of expanding education freedom.

To achieve our mission, BEST is committed to creating a long-term impact through grassroots outreach by mobilizing our network of parent activists across the country with the purpose of uniting into state-based parent coalitions to protect parents’ rights to be their children’s primary educators and equip them with the tools to give their child and every child in their community the best opportunities possible.

Laura Zorc

Director of Education Reform

Laura’s experience in various levels of the education system has prepared her to lead this movement effectively. As one of Florida Parents Against Common Core founding members, Laura’s work led to the removal of Common Core standards in Florida. Additionally, she has served as president of her county’s parent-teacher association and as an elected member of her local school board. These experiences have equipped her to form and guide effective parent coalitions across the country. As a parent of three school-age children, Laura knows that the key to education reform is not just white papers but parents across the country standing up for their families.

Josiah Gaiter

Deputy Director of Programs

Josiah has worked on grassroots campaigns across the country, organizing grassroots efforts to maximize the community's voice in everything from municipal to statewide elections. He understands the influence that community members have and how to maximize their impact. Before working in grassroots, Josiah taught middle and high school students in Rockwall, Texas. Growing up in a homeschool family and then teaching in the public school system has provided him with an understanding of varying student needs and how to meet them.

Amy Carney

BEST Deputy Director

Amy is the Author of Parent on Purpose and speaks to moms and dads about the importance of raising their children with more intentionality. Her work has evolved into empowering parents to stand up for education reform in Arizona and around the country. Amy is a mother of six and an advocate for foster care adoption. She is currently running for a seat on the Scottsdale Unified School Board in November of 2022.

Zach Laba

Outreach Coordinator

Zach Laba joined the BEST team after working for Glenn Youngkin's campaign, getting to see first hand the importance of parental rights in education and the dangers of school board tyranny to service teachers unions. He previously worked for the Congressional Leadership Fund. Zach graduated from The George Washington University in 2020. He enjoys trying to golf, reading biographies, and 2000s network television.

Victor Nieves

Grassroots Coordinator

Victor Nieves is a first-generation immigrant, a citizen born abroad. Victor carries his conservative values and wants to make sure our freedoms and constitution remain protected for the next generation of Americans. Victor got involved in conservative grassroots politics right out of high school and hasn’t stopped since, working on numerous local, state, and federal campaigns throughout the years in his home state of Texas. Victor understands the importance of grassroots and he loves it.
