WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Governor Cooper’s veto of North Carolina Senate Bill 37, which would have mandated options for in-person learning at public schools, Laura Zorc, FreedomWorks Director of Education Reform, commented:
“After saying ‘it’s time to get our children back into the classroom’ only a month ago, it’s unbelievable that Gov. Cooper would veto a bill passed by the House and Senate doing just that. With most of the state still not back in school full time, this reckless action blatantly ignores the will of parents in North Carolina.
“Parents should not have to beg for schools to reopen–their tax dollars fund these schools. During his call to open schools a month ago, Gov. Cooper was joined by the state health department, and the evidence shows that there are low rates of transmission at schools. It’s time to stop gaslighting parents while using children as pawns in a political chess match. Open the schools.”
